A newbie asks about NPC voices

Hello everyone!

I just bought the game and have started playing. I would like to know if everyone's game works the same way as mine, or if there is something wrong with mine:

The only character that actually has VOICED speech so far in my game is Virgil. All the other followers/NPC's only have text over their heads, no actual audible speech. Oh, and the animals/kites make growling/screaming noices, but as for dialogue it's only Virgil.

Is that the case for everyone, or is there something wrong with my game?

Only the major NPCs will use voice. There are thousands of NPCs all over arcanum, so not all of them will have a voice. People walking down the street, shop owners, theives, most commoners have no voice. I think the next npc that uses is a voice is magnus, but I'm not too sure. So don't worry, it's supposed to be that way.

Unfortunately very few characters actually have speech. The few you will come across tend to be plot-related NPC's:

Virgil
Magnus
Loghaire
Raven
Gar
Gilbert Bates
Zan Alurin

- among others (won't quote them in case it spoils the game).

 

I never got Gar in my party. Does he have any real relevance to the plot?

 

No.

Sorry, he must have just slipped in there. He does have a voice though....

 

Funny when you find out who he really is though :lol:

 

I like Gar, he's funny.

Windmills, check the back of the manual for a full listing of who does who's voice...personally, Simeon Tor's is my favourite...

I feel better knowing the game's supposed to be that way.

So far I just have Virgil, Sogg Mead Mugg and Jayna Stiles as followers, and only Virgil had voiced speech, so I was getting worried.

P.S. - I bought arcanum on clearance for $5.99, and this game, so far, is incredible! What a deal, eh?

That Geoffory guy (the necromancer, how ever you spell his name) his voice sends me and my character into a violent rage!!!!!!!!!!! We crush!! pillage! plunder!.......then murder him in Ashbury's town hall. That crystal dont do you any good now does it bitch?! Maguns cracks me up some times.

 

Hmmm... Why is it that everyone always seems to portray Dwarves as Scottish?!? EVERY game I'm come across with voices for Dwarves have made them scottish! Why can't we have Irish Dwarven clans? or Cornish Dwarven clans? or why not Dwarves with strong Southern-Californian drawls!
