Isn't that because one of the more noticable symptoms of Rabies is extreme aversion to water?

    Fatman,

Yup. If you want to be safe from a rabid critter, get in the middle of the pond.

Doesn't rabies also make you extremely thirsty?

that kinda odd, maybe thats the cause of death of having rabies, you fear water therefore you cant drink, makes you thirsty
    death cause of thirst?

Rabies is a neurological disease. A major cause of death is encephalitis (water on the brain). Hallucinations are common. Maybe the motion of the water just freaks the victim out.
But salivary glands are affected as well as the brain, so dehydration may actually play a part in the demise of the sufferer. Cheerful, huh?

Let's face it, if you're suffering an aversion to water, extreme thirst is just a matter of time

No, I think it might be a symptom, not just a side effect.

I don't think that is what sheriff meant. While having a strong fear of water you refrain yourself from drinking it, thus making yourself thirsty.

Oooops, well Jinxed is right: I was making a joke, not really answering your question, but you could be right about it being a symptom rather than a side effect. Maybe I'll check it out when Feldon comes back, by asking when his thirstiness began

I don't think you understood what I meant. I thought that the thirstiness that rabies brings on is an independent symptom of the fear of water, not a side effect of being afraid of water.

your wrong about agoraphobia. its not the fear of open spaces. its very hard to define but essentially its the fear of fear. an agoraphobic is someone who knows that if they go out to the grocerie store they will have a panick attack and then just thinking about going to the grocerie store starts to cause them. usually agoraphobics have many other underlaying phobias.

That's interesting, Just a Guy. So you're saying agoraphobics aren't afraid of... what? Open spaces? Is that what the "agora-" prefix means?

So they aren't afraid of the open space itself, but rather their own reaction to it? If that's true, wouldn't the same hold true for the other phobias as well? For example, a hydrophobic isn't afraid of water, he's afraid that being near water will trigger a panic attack? A claustrophobic isn't afraid of being closed in; He's afraid that being closed in will cause him to panic?

The human mind is a trip, man...

BTW, help me out here with the Latin. What's the correct term for the irrational fear that your high-speed internet access is going to be cut off?

    Sitiophobia/Sitophobia - Fear of food

I think there's a reason you don't hear about that one too often...Maybe that's why people get so mad when you say "Eat Me".

    Chirophobia - Fear of hands

This one seems a bit distressing, but I can't put my finger on it.

NOTE: Too bad this topic isn't about puns or I could tell you all about my old character, Ambeed Axeteros

Then I hope you aren't geliophobic!

Speaking of fears, in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, were they genuphobic or odontophobic?
