Yesterday the entire university was evacuated because they unearthed a 500kg bomb at a nearby construction site. Today they found another, this time a nice little 1000kg one. Everyone was evacuated in a 2km radius. Map (The campus is above the bomb, with two of the university's buildings) Hungarian article
How does it feel that you've spent several years of your life unknowlingly strolling on top of something with the potential to kill everyone in a radius of several hundred yards?
I'd personally feel pretty awesome. All the times I may have tripped on campus, any time I dropped something heavy, or just because something may have corroded inside the warhead, I could have died...but I didn't.
Frigo: Has the source of the bombs been released yet? ie: Were they Russian, German, British, American, someone else....?
Figures. We do've a bit of a tendancy to leave explosives laying around... and weapons. I'm just glad nobody got hurt. That could've easily been a catatrosphe.
I found it interesting reading about all the nuclear weapons (mostly Soviet) that have gone missing or were dumped into the ocean since the 1950's. It's just a shame that nobody (with the possible exception of Israel) has planes loaded with nukes flying around anymore.
I believe the United States still has a whole network of nuclear bombers flying all around the world, in case fast response is required.
... what if one of those things fall down? Let's just hope it happens somewhere in Sibiria or in the middle of Australia when it happens.
I don't know why we bothered with that. It's not like we're easily capable of massive destruction from under the sea. actually, that article has a link to the reason why: nuclear triad
