Have you tried using the -no3d and/or -doublebuffer command line options? See the readme file for more info.
VDM also marks all locations for you. And the latest version has a free teleport option. I believe, rroyo simply merged the mod into his A:WIP.
Or simply download Virgil's Debug Menu.
You can use Virgil's Debug Menu to give yourself infinite character points/XP/money/etc if you really want to cheat.

Add -no3d to your Arcanum link. Like so: C:\Games\Arcanum\Arcanum.exe -no3d
If you have an earlier save, try reloading and learning the schematic again. It should appear under "found schematics", no matter your skills.
