An ore golem normally has 78 always hit points. Like say an Ailing Wolf has always 10 hit points.

I have made almost all monsters to spawn with different hit points.

For example in an enqounter with 4 ore golems they spawned (i mind controled them to see hit points) 66 ,78, 81 and 120 maximum hit points) Otherwise they are identical.

    The range right now is
    75 %
    80 %
    85 %
    90 %
    95 %
    100 %
    105 %
    110 %
    115 %
    120 %
    125 %
    130 %
    135 %
    140 %
    145 %
    150 %
    155 %

What do you think ? Will random hit points for monsters
( like they use in say the D&D system ) will translate in more fun combat ?

It certainly has possibility. The D&D based games I've played, NWN mostly, a little BG, have all been decent, and I liked most of the monsters. It adds a little variety to the game. I think 75-150 is fine though, no need to go beyond that. Or maybe 50-200, but that's alot of work.

Yeah, that's a good idea Chris :). It's always nice adding a bit more variety to a game like this. This way you'll never really know if a certain monster will be an easy catch or not, and I like such elements - to uphold excitement, you should never be 100% certain about the outcome of any battle. Such features encourages tactics and planning, not just the standard "click-click-yawn" fights you sometimes experience in some RPG:s.

I thought you were principially against making Arcanum easier though

is there a way you could change the hit points based on the number of foes in an encounter? ex. in an encounter with one ore golem the hit points could range from 100-200, but with 4 ore golems each could only have say 80-145? just to sort of balance it out encounter to encounter?(not to make every encounter equal, but just to make sure you dont come across 6 ore golems with 200% hps?

yes its good but you might need to put a limit up for example you might find a monster at the beginning of the game with a lot of hit points compared to your character at the start of the game.

I wonder though - will this affect townspeople and unique creatures and persons, such as Kerghan? I think if such encounters get too high or too low hp:s, this could really damage game balance - imagine being cut down by a seemingly invincible Kerghan in one game and just walk right through him in the next. This relates perfect to random encounters, but should it really apply to unique ones? Maybe that was your intention, but...

Monsters with Velorien's blessing??? Chris, are you serious?
*imagines a bunch of Golden Bears performing a Strange Ceremony near Velorien's Althar, with the Ancient Bear playing a priest*

Wow. I totally missed that one when skimming through the replies. All monsters got the ultimate blessing eh? I have to repeat Solaris here Chris - are you serious?

In case that was implemented, impossible difficult level would be just that, impossible - there's no way anyone could beat monsters that tough at low levels. I've got serious doubts even an elven mage with harm and a MA increasing background could manage that - one wolf or kite maybe, and I say maybe, but two would kill him right off the spot.

But then, of course, you've stripped mages of their über-powers, so the elf in this scenario would be dead whatever he did.

Or... are you just throwing that one in as a funny perk? :)

    townspeople NO.

and unique creatures yes it will affect them.
    Kerghan will not be affected.

Monsters are monsters and all animals and all undead.
Almost 95 % of all normal and unique will be affected.

    As for the impossible difficulty.
It is implemented because it is impossible.
I do not want a noob troll telling me that he managed to beat the impossible difficulty in 1 week.
And yes it should be doable.Just avoid monsters and do all diplomatic quests until you are high level.

As for stripping mages from their powers ?

Not truth. Technologists had 20 dex and potion of speed to achieve the same neo super speed effect.
Some high level magick is even more powerful than it was before.
Also what about the level 50 perk that adds +50 to fatigue ?

There was a reason about why the potion of haste was not implemented in say Fallout .

As for Velorien's blessing HE/SHE can decide to cast it wherever HE/SHE wants.
The monsters do not need to perform a ceremony.

And I want someone after to try it in the impossible difficulty and tell me that
    "It was easy"
