    Hi !

So, is it possible, is there any file I can download that will turn my French Arcanum ( bouuh ) into an English one ( yeaaaah ) ?

Or do I have to find an English Arcanum ?

Thank you for your help !

Just threaten it while speaking with a German accent, it will soon surrender and run in English for you. :p

You will need an English version.
GoG, Amazon, or E-Bay are good places to start looking.

Sounds like a perfect excuse to learn French!

I've been living in Paris for 16 years. I speak French quite well :p

In fact, I'd like to practice my English, and to learn the English names for Arcanum towns, characters etc.

I don't have a credit card, so I can't buy Arcanum on GoG. And the game is like 30 dollars on Ebay, not to mention the shipping. LOOOOL. So I guess I'll just download it like a biatch. After all, I have already bought it in France.

    Thank's for the answers.

Was iDoll banned for this post? Because downloading programs you already own is actually legal and accepted in the terms of use, so long as you destroy any extra copies when you part with your original product.

Technically, if you read most of the copyright laws in effect, it actually isn't. I like to claim it is, and tend to act as though it is, but it really isn't.

Zanza: I had that avatar, as well as the can of spam years before you did. :p

Difference is zanza could post with his.

DarkFool, could you elaborate on 'technically isn't'? I'm 90% certain it is perfectly legal to make copies for backup purposes of software you already own...

I haven't actually read any EULAs since the 90s, so maybe it's changed. The idea of being able to make limitless numbers of back-up copies on the condition that you destroy them when you sell the original is pretty old hat.

Actually even even copying a game even for back-up proposes violates the EULA. Its why alot of newer games have extra coding to act as copy protection. I've found the interesting form of this was when a friend tried to copy A D&D game. You had to have the manual and type in a certain sentence from a certain page, each time was random.

Read most EULA's. Plus, unless I'm mistaken, I believe the DMCA basically bars all Americans from doing anything but taking it up the ass by every corporation in the country.

You may make a back up copy of the game for personal use, this doesn't violate most EULA's. However you cannot download the back up copy, since downloading it does violate EULA's and is also a violation of copyright laws.

As for the DRM in most new games, the legality of that is questionable since it can violate the Copyright Act where the owner may sell their copy second hand as long as it was legally obtained to begin with.

Copyright law varies from country to country, what may be applicable in USA and Australia may not necessarily be in France.

In any case, French Arcanum and English Arcanum are hardly the same piece of software. So calling it a backup is far fetched no matter how you look at it.

They're the same piece of software in a different language. iDoll has already paid for his copy, and he probably got it when they were still on the shelves, meaning that Troika actually got some real money off of him, unlike the several of us who got their copy on eBay and never actually gave the developers a dime.

Yes this is true, though the voice acting is part of what you pay for when you buy a voiced game.

Personally I'll agree this banning was a bit harsh, but I'm soft. However it is consistent with previous practice. Discussing warez has been grounds for banning several times before.

Is that mentioned in Xiao's Angry FAQ? If not, it ought to be.
