Years ago I used a Half Elf with the raised in the pits background and made the rules that I could NEVER use any other weapon aside from the rusty axe I started at the crash site with to fight enemies I could however use my barehands on doors and things. And I only allowed him to be equiped with normal items (no magic or tech) that I gained through victory in combat.

    That was a hard game.

I'm about to start playing my 'Healer' character.

Balanced between Magic and Tech. All White Necromancy, All Herbalism Schematics, a smattering of spells like (Description) of (Element). Never attacks, only heals her allies, buffs her party, and sometimes stuns a foe. Could be interesting.

I love this idea but what about training? I guess unarmed combat with hardened hands is good for this build. And you will find the mechanized gauntlets anyway...Is it okay if we use the mechanized gauntlets for the build?

Melee, Dodge, Prowl, Backstab, Pickpocket, Hardened Hands and Mechanized Gauntlets with no followers.

True roleplaying challenge: Never use the World Map travel, always walk unless you are running away from enemies, sleep at least eight hours each day (In inns if possible), eat food and drink water several times per day.

This also applies to every follower you take with you.

    You would never finish.

Can you imagine walking from Caladon to Tulla?

Hmm, you're right... Use of trains, ships, and teleportation spells are allowed.

How about Finishing the game while ruining every quest save for those strictly related to the main quest and have to gather all your XP and items the old fashioned way!

You could get a boat somewhat closer.

I remember spending two hours trying to get to Shrouded Hills manually the first time i played Arcanum. I didn't listen to Virgil so didn't know what the world map was for.

A cowardly, evil child of a hero. To insure that you live up to your cowardice, you can't lose any health for the entire game.

I once ran the whole way from Shrouded Hills to Tarant - just to see if it is really possible. It was.

It's a pity that all railroad tracks disappear in a tunnel shortly after leaving the city area - running along the tracks could be a fun one-time expirience.

Is modding this in at all possible ? I mean actual tracks going from one town to another.

Also, for a pacifist game, is it actually possible to get through
those guards in Kerghan's doors without killing them? And is it possible to free Arronax without killing that snake thing?

Yep! The pieces are available. (So is the huge, frickin' distance.)

I believe, you can use the Ring of Shadows to kill the guard, so your kill won't get registered in the logbook. The Baneful Gauntlets won't help you though, since the undead are immune to poison.

I'm thinking of playing a Pacifist game.

But instead of being the usual "Oh-My-God I'm never going to fight ever and I will only run away from combat" character, my character WILL possess combat habilities, but he won't kill. But that does not mean he's above cracking someone's legs, stealing all his things (can you steal from a knocked-out enemy?) and getting away. All combat will be non-lethal, and he'll will usually act to avoid combat, but when things go to hell, prepare yourself to sleep a little.

Can someone give me tips for this character?

Being a technologist is the way to go for this. There are some weapons that affect only fatigue (Tranquilizer Gun, Knock-Out Gas, Smoke Grenades, and Stun Grenades). If you want to go melee, I think blunt weapons like staves or maces do more fatigue damage than blades and axes.

Which race, skills and stat-focuses would you recomend me? I think I'm going to only use NPCs as pack mules, so I doubt I'll use much strength.

I see that Throwing is the way to go at the beginning, at least until I get myself a Tranquilizer Gun (when that happens, by the way?). I would try melee, but I dunno... I'll have to invest in Dodge, too.

For race, anything that isn't dumb (Half-Ogre), magically-inclined (Elf, Half-Elf) or gets negative reaction (Half-Orc) is good. Gnomes are specially good for their reaction bonus and haggle bonus, that will let you get better prices for the components of the weapons you're going to craft.

Don't get too many points in Melee, since you're only going to use it in the early game, where you can fight with any weapon you like if you put a point in herbology, so that you can make healing salves and use them on enemies if you're coming too close to killing them.

When you get to Tarant, go to the two technology shops once a day (They restock each 24 hours if they aren't currently visible in your screen, I think) and buy the schematics for the fatigue-damaging weapons when they appear (It's a random chance, so it can take a lot of time)

Then, use the bookseller in the Tarant University to get enough expertise to craft them (Pickpocket your money back if it's too costly) late in the game, get a doctorate in the chemical discipline, so that you can make the Knock-Out Gas (It requires the Anaesthizer), which is pretty much the best non-lethal weapon in the game.

EDIT: A magical pacifist could be possible too, if you use a combination of low-level melee weapons and the healing spells on enemies.

I just realized how horribly easy it would be to break the game if you had a weapon that did no health damage but any amount of fatigue damage, picked an enemy and started swinging.
