    Welcome to the forum, HL1ownsHL2!

What are you looking to do?
Are you just wanting to make a free place to sleep or add an entirely new adventure?

Get back to me on this so I know which way to go.

    Well, all right!

First things first though, you'll need to learn how to mod in the Arcanum enviroment.
It's not as easy as click, click, click, and then go play your creation.

If you're still interested, here's where you should begin:

    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... _part1.zip
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... _part2.zip
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... _part3.zip
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... _part4.zip

It's called the Arcanum Modding Tutorial or AMTUT. Do the exercises!
The sanity you save will be your own.

To round out your available references:
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... Manual.pdf
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... acades.zip
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... ations.htm
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... e_sets.zip
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... gedit2.zip

You'll need the WorldEd 1.0.7.0.exe and a DAT builder:
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... n_1070.zip
    http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ ... uilder.zip

Note: Replace your existing post-patch WorldEd with this one AFTER you've done AMTUT.

After you've done AMTUT, and you're ready to add your adventure, create a copy of your existing Arcanum installation. Then go through the Arcanum 1 through 4.DATS, the Arcanum.DAT, and the Arcanum.patch0 file - renaming them with, say, an X in front of the name. Also the patch0 file will need to be renamed to xArcanumpatch0.dat.
Now begin making folders with the original names of everything you've renamed - ie: A folder named Arcanum1.dat.
Using the database builder, one at a time open each renamed dat and extract the files within to the correct folder. Example: xArcanum1.dat to the Arcanum1.dat folder and the xArcanumpatch0.dat to the Arcanum.patch0 folder.

You now have the entire game opened up for study.
Take some time, study the mes files, relate what you're reading to what you've learned in AMTUT, and then you'll be ready to add your new adventure.

Have I scared you away yet?

I'm currently using a laptop (my entire family hates desktops) so i do not have any of the numbers on the right side of the keyboard....how am i supposed to move around in WorldEd? anyone know how to remap the keys?

*sigh* sometimes i wish Troika thought things through a bit more before releasing the game...

    Ouch....

There probably is a way to reset the keys, but I have no idea what it is.

One thought - Check around the computer stores for an auxilary numbers pad that'll work with your laptop . You may have to order it.

For the time being, check your laptop keyboard for an alternate "function" key that may trigger num-pad arrows when held down. For instance, my laptop has a second function key colored in blue instead of white. Some of the other keys have alternate functions labeled in blue as well but on the side of the key instead of the top where the primary characters are. Instead of number pad arrows, since there is no num-pad, my Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down buttons have arrows that can be used while holding down this 2nd function key. It may seem a little unweildy while trying to move fluently through WorldEd, but it's better than what you have going for you right now.

Good god almighty rroyo. Look at all that info. You may have sparked my dormant inner modder once again.

ok ive done the AMTUT's and skimmed through the resources

but ive run into a problem..

this is with the last bit of info (opening the actual arcanum world) ive renamed all those dats to have "x" in the beginning and renamed the patch dat and i made the folders for everything but the arcanum.dat...see i cant make a new folder in the module directory because there is already a file called "Arcanum" ... do i rename it, or make the file somewhere else?
