    What are all of the ways to identify an item?

    -Spell (which is level 5!)
    -Pay someone in town
    -Scroll of Identify?

    Any others?

    Lockpick a shop's chest, put the things in it, barter with the shopkeeper, go back to the chest and grab your identified items.

    The reason I ask is some mods (like Time) have unidentified items, and it is frustrating not having any easy way of identifying them (I don't want to take my WP to 18 and then get the level 5 identify spell, my character would be beat to death before I had the luxury of spending all those points that way)

    And I can't afford to sell to and re-buy from a shopkeeper since their markups are insane.

    Then cheat:

    get the character/follower dialog file and after
    {#}{What would you like me to do?}{What would you like me to do?}{}{}{}{}
    add the line:
    {#}{Can you identify something for me?}{}{1}{}{}{ii}

    I think that's a way to go.

    Heck you don't even need that, you might be able to make a magic street sign or something if you know the .dlg file to replace

    Definitely a good idea. But if I cheat I'll probably drop a machine gun and a flamethrower with high damage and speed at the starting point, and then a guy that gives me level 20 xp. That way I won't need no stinking unidentified items. :-D

    Flamethrower near start's a good idea: one of only a few cheats I used in CarArcanum. But machinegun uses too many bullets on squirrels (or equivalent).

    Or you create a magickal gun which has +100% to hit and does insane damage, gotta love that editor.
