I've wondered for a long time, and I've played the game 2-3 times now - and I always end up choosing magic (if you know what I meen). I'm from Denmark, so my english isn't fluently and I may have a very bold way of explaining things... Sorry :9

About my poll, could you please post a reply with a "... because" in it.?

I love the magic for teleporting everywhere in a flash, disintegrating noxious enemies and troblous containers, and (of course) raising the shade of Bates to force the secrets out of him as he begs for his soul to be put to rest.

Compared with all that, a stupid hat with some coil and a light bulb just doesn't measure up in the style department, you know?

    * * *

Just realised I forgot to put in a "... because" (and yes, I am slightly cocky today because I just got a promotion; sorry for that).

    Technology doesn't disintegrate. Case closed.

I like playing the neutral gunfighter characters because you can be either techno and magic as needed - within limits, of course.

I've never tried such a character, but I imagine you could make it pretty damn deadly with a maxed out Firearms skill and all the buffs on. Heck, why not mow people down with your gun only to raise their holey corpses as zombies!

    MWOAHAHAHAHAHA!

... of course, direct damage spells will be teh suck.

Don't you have any of that healing stuff? Herbology salves and whatnot?

(By the way, I've never used Virge as anything but a mule since my second game.)

    Thank you!

Besides, when you play a magickal character, you can't make magickal arms and armor.

You can buy magical arms and armor, I've never played Arcanum without ending up with more money than I could possibly figure out how to spend. As for fatigue, yeah it consumes a lot, but considering that you should always specialize on a select few colleges, you can afford to invest in raising your fatigue with experience points.

I too was shocked. Every self-respecting player steals so as not to reduce the size of his cash hoard. In fact, I prefer to steal in a way that allows me to sell the shopkeeper's items back.

As for the whole Magick/Tech issue, Tech is awesome. Who needs to disintegrate when you can eviscerate? Also, by disintegrating something (and causing it in excess of 30000 points of damage) you wreck a chance you might've had to loot the corpse (or chest or safe, depending on whether or not you suck at lock-picking).
Tech is also better at making money (though there's really no purpose to making money at all, save to stay at an inn or get your character completely smashed at a bar and kill everyone in a drunken rage). Eye gear, for example, is made up of two things; Eye glasses (30 coins) and pocket watch parts(40 coins). If you're good at haggling, when you have the eye gear completed, you can sell it to an inventor for around 2500 coins. That's a very high buy/sell ratio.
As for being able to make magickal gear, think of it this way; You know spells. Other people know spells. Other people enchant armor and swords with certain attributes, stemming from the spells they know. Why can't you enchant? If I could make a sword of mind control or some shocking chain armor, I think I'd side with Magick. However, since that isn't the case, and I can really only make stuff with Technology, I'll stick with tech. Besides, how many magickal guns are there in the game? How many magickal grenades?

Magick is the past. Technology is the future. Technology is going to grow more advanced with time. Magick will fade away.
Which would you rather be part of?

    2

    3

Oh that's right, you don't have access to them yet...

You've also given me an idea for another topic.

In Swedish folklore, trolls are rumored to inflict pain and disease on people by shooting them with enchanted bullets. Wonder how the hell they do that.

I think these Anglocentric forumers would equate that with elf arrows, elf bolts, or whatever they call it.

I believe using an enchanted Colt .45 is the traditional method.

By the way when I say there are magickal guns in the game I don't mean guns that fire magick. I find that a little too "kewl!!!111!!!!!!!" and it flies in the face of the whole magick/tech thing.
Magickal handheld projectile launcher is a more appropriate description.
