Packing, by its very nature, sucks really hard. Packing for deployment sucks doubly hard, especially when you haven't been deployed before and you don't know what you will need/want while sitting in the desert for a year. It also sucks that I will be without all the stuff that I pack until I get to the dessert at the end of next month.

Anyway, I have to have all my personal stuff (not equipment) packed by tomorrow. This sucks.

Yeah, life in the military can suck at points. I have been a navy man for over ten years now and I transfer next month, not to the desert, but the bahamas. Turns out they have a little base there and I scored the touchdown, going for two years. I have had sea deployments on subs though and that sucks, I feel your pain. Just hang in there and keep your head down, a year goes by quick, its the days that are long. Thanks for serving.

What are you complaining about? This sounds like the greatest deployment of all time.

Well, my box is now packed, and I'm pleased to find that I could fit everything in one box. It's a nice box too. I aquired* a shipping container that's supposed to be used for shipping aircraft parts, so it's very sturdy and water-tight.

And I meant what I said. Most people think Iraq is made of sand, but it is actually brown sugar.

Fudge packing? Why would you want to suck that?

JJ, you'll take care, won't you? If not, Xiao will kill you and I'll go down (yeah, you're going down, no way you can make it to heaven) and bring you back to kill you again. :p

I don't know if I can get him heaven, but I do have a bunch of 'Get into Purgatory Free' coupons.

Dude, the sandbox sucks. Bring a pack of cards with you on the plane, get a subscription to maxim or something (mail is important!), and remember two cardinal rules:

    1. Keep you head down

    2. NEVER volunteer.

Hadji sucks, the kids aren't your friends, and watch out for crap on the side of the road.

    Good luck and God bless.

Here's a little something before you go! :D

I thought that you were going to have a Box of Hands joke in there. I love brown sugar, however.
Having no military experience myself (save for paintball...and you all know that doesn't count), I don't have anything to say except don't get yourself killed. I'll always remember you as the first person on Terra Arcanum who corrected me. Oddly enough, I find that important.
And by acquire, I'm assuming you mean liberate from the clutches of someone else?

When you get back I want a full report on how many bullets it takes to get to the center of an Islama-pop.

I'm hoping that if I do see any action, it won't be on the ground. I'm sure I'll see my share of convoys, but I'll probably be spending more time in the air as a Blackhawk crewchief/doorgunner. That means I get to spray massive amounts of bullets from an M240H machinegun if I see anything that needs a hole put in it.

Or I'll be flying medevac and wishing to God that I had a machinegun.

You can be just like the gunner in Full Metal Jacket. If he tries to run he's a terrorist, if he stays still he is just a well disciplined terrorist.

Full Metal Jacket has R. Lee Ermey. That's always a plus in my book.

I know a guy who was there. He said he fired off his full combat load of ammo in 15 minutes, then fired an AK for the next two hours.
