It actually depends on in wich mood I am and with wich character I play at the moment of the opening... But the axe-thing is what I use, mostly.

I just learned that the Tesla Rod is a silent and effective way of destroying containers...even though the manual says it is loud :^)

I normally pick the lock, but I tend to open PEOPLE up with dynamite. It's best to go solo when you do that, so your party doesn't rush up to attack the recently-made-explosive victim, and become hamburger.

Too bad you don't get exp for opening up critters with dynamite. Still, that's my favirote way to do it, provoded I have eonugh of it. Unfortunately it can barely scratch metal doors that have 1000 HP.

Before I realized I can smash anything with Alt+click, I used to put a charcoal or saltpeter in the "hotkey item bank" (or whatever, I don't feel like opening a dictionary), clicked on it, then threw it at the object. My companions immediately started to crush it.

That's exactly what I did (twice through the game) before I stumbled on force attack completely by accident.
The manual definitely needed a shortcut card.

Before I learned of force attacking, I usually ignored the chest or had Virgil try to lockpick it. Once I learned it though, the pyrotechnic axe and chests get along very, very well. Usually, I play the music you hear when you get the hammer from Super Smash Brothers Melee...no, not really.

I completely forgot about force attacking. That makes shooting things much more fun.

I used to shoot street lamps with the hushed revolver, when going through towns, robbing shops.

Eventually a guard noticed what I was doing, not giving a damn that he wasn't supposed to hear the gunshot. So he decided that for such an act of vandalism, he should beat the living shit outta me.

Actually, that's quite a good way of getting an advantage of your enemies, taking out the light and all. I mean, if you're better than them in the combat skills, or at least equal, then your percentage could be higher (on hitting) and therefore you gain advantage.

Or you just beat/shoot/harm the crap outta everybody as usual.

The problem is thet the difference is too trivial to be worth all the trouble, so it's better to take out the enemy and leave the light alone.

Unless you're an expert in the relevant combat skill and your enemies aren't. But then, you're at an advantage anyway, if not, killing the lights won't be much help. That's why I started using dynamite :D

I know... But it would be cool if there was a differance. Like if you had "night vision" and your enemies didn't, and the place where you took out the lights went pitch black.

Well, it probably could. If you just adjusted the penalties to darkness and stuff like that.

Isn't there a background that reverses the light penalties?

Yeah, see perfect in the dark, suffer the vision penalties in lightor during the day. Really not all that useful.

It all depends on the mood I'm in and if the kids have annoyed me or not. Most of the time I pick locks, but when I'm in an aggressive mood .... Dynamite everytime.

Picking locks usually for me. Though if one of my followers has been particularly useless in the last encounter, I strip them of their weapons and force them to beat it open or faint.
