Because it seems to have the same graphics, the same genre, and that sorta stuff.

Well... same genre, different subcategory. Arcanum is quite non-linear, as opposed to Baldur's Gate, which has a linear plot. BG also uses D&D rules, while Arcanum uses something similar to the Fallout SPECIAL system (where you get character points to allocate to specific character traits). Arcanum is not in the medieval world, in a sense, while BG is. BG has alot of rules that make it either fun or hateful (well, I find it fun, but some action rpgers - like Diablo 2'ers - don't like it for one reason or another). So yes, while Arcanum is an RPG like BG, the focus is quite, quite different. Oh, and I forgot... there are no class restrictions in Arcanum - so you can be a mage and wear armor (but you'd probably incur a penalty somewhere), while in BG you can't use armor or bladed weapons, etc.

Oh yeah... BG doesn't have a "Tech vs. Mage" theme... Lots of cool things in Arcanum that BG doesn't have. Arcanum is a very, very good twist on RPG's... and it'll probably be one of the most unique.

Some people would say it's not like Baldur's Gate because Baldur's Gate wasn't good, and this will be

But I'm not nessesarily one of those people.

Easy there, bashing on Baldur's Gate...

I'd say it shares more in common with Fallout (except for the fantasy elements), but since every CRPG in the last several years had learned the lessons of both, who can say?
Let's hope the TORN team remembers their own lessons...

Baldur's Gate makes the children cry.

Arcanum is silky sweet and has guns.

Had nothing to do so I looked around and saw this old post and I couldn´t resist taking offense while reading it.
And that´s why I´m bringing this subject up.

What´s all this I read about Baldurs Gate?
It´s one of the best games ever.
BG2 was elected RPG of the year.
I mean, I´ve spent like 10% of y life in front of the BG games and I cant stand reading this.

Sure, Arcanum adds alot of new cool stuff but I´d have to say that I like Baldurs Gate more. Doesnt mean that I dont like Arcanum, but can ya´ll give me your opinion in this matter.

    BG vs Arcanum
    What do you choose.

I do realize that I´m probably on the wrong ground asking this question, but I´ll take my chances.

Okay, Reko Kid, you will probably be burned at the (figurative) stake now. Although I have never played BG or BG2, I still consider the games cursed and for the masses who have no idea what RPG'ing is all about. I tend to not like being forced into classes, therefore I am all in favour of games like Fallout and Arcanum which remain skill-based games.

Although I have not researched this at all, and have not facts to back this up, I am going to make a blatant statement - the BG series rode the wave of success that Fallout and Fallout 2 created, and only won their RPG's of the Year awards because no other decent RPG's were released those years.

I know, I will probably be banned forever.

    And your opinion about BG1&2.
Well, you haven´t played them so...
But I recommend you to atleast download them as ISO games and try them out and then honestly tell me that you didn´t like them, if you do that I wont open my mouth again about it, no matter what they say.

I only have a 56k modem. So I can't really download them, and (what I see as) wasting my scarce money buying the games would be a...well, a waste...

Well, with a modem it would get more expensive than buying them from a store I guess =o)

And it would possibly be a waste of money if you dont like "the good old rpg style"...
    Borrow them from a friend?

I liked both of them. They have an atmosphere I can't quite describe. I just like it alot. Also if doesn't crash. The code is well written. That's also because the game doesn't vary much. Oh well I enyoy a more arcade RPG from time to time.
