How do you destroy the Bangellian Scourge?

I have the sword and i keep throwing it into the fire and the pit but it isnt working. How do i blow this thing up?

 

In the dungeon, where you find the Scourge, there is this chest like thing you can open. Put the Scourge there and close it

 

No, the chest doesn't work does it? Go right to the end of the cave where all those ghostly knights are and if they attack you, kill them (obviously) and near the chest there on the back wall there is a furnace or forge like thing. Place it in there as if it were a chest.

I didn't mean THE chest. I said a "chest like thing" that can be open. I simply forgot what that thing is called :roll:
