Are there any working download managers capable of downloading from Terra-Arcanum and resuming said download when the connection dies and has to be remade?

Case in point. I have 3 real things I use to download with online.

Flashget works great, but some places just don't want to allow it.
Wackget is better, because it takes the new link (as long as it resolves to the same filename) and just adds it onto what is already downloaded.

The last method is via torrents.

The problem is, Terra-Arcanum won't work with them.
Flashget gets halted and it's dead in the water.
Wackget doesn't resolve the filenames properly. It just gives the <a>.hash string. So if I try to get the link again and keep downloading, it's different every time the page reloads.

So is there any possible download manager that will work for this?

The main thing I'm trying to download is the High Quality Town Maps. No way I can download them in one shot anywhere, I have dialup. The only torrent I have found with this is some stupid "Portable" thing. Where all the files are .dat and the readme says you need to use ThinApp to install and work it all.

Dial-up in 2011? Do you live in the mountains?

Yes, actually. On a farm that's 15 miles from the nearest towns. Nothing else comes out this far.

Ok, so I guess there are no DL managers that can resume this stuff.

Maybe there is someone that can create a torrent of the files I need and let me download from that?

Depending on the file size and your online time, I can generally get 100mb in a few days time. I typically download around the clock for larger files.

I mainly want the AWIP by rroyo and HQ Town Maps.

Forget about the HQ Townmaps. The difference in quality is hardly worth your time. They were just built using a different downscaling algorithm (bilinear vs nearest-neighbor), so there are no "jaggies", but that's about it, they aren't any more detailed.

Ok, well even without that, the WIP thing is still 140mb.

There is just no way I can get it without it either being uploaded to a file share place that let's me resume with Wackget (pretty sure the MegaUpload one let's you do that).

Or if it's stuck in a torrent and hosted by someone with a steady connection pretty much from 9am till 5am.

Its hard to believe in this day and age something as little as that can cause a problem.

    Yeah, well.

There are a lot of places without resume capability like that. Like everyone is so paranoid someone else will steal their bandwidth.

It's been a while since I used any P2P file sharing services, but have you looked on any others besides BitTorrent? I used to use Kazaa with a dial-up connection. The file you want might be lurking somewhere on one of those.

I vaguely remember stumbling across a torrent of Arcanum fully modded. Can't remember if it was with Rroyo's mod or Drog's mod, though. Of course, it could take you weeks to torrent it, but it could be worse.

Also, you'll have to leave it up to yourself if it is okay to get the pirate copy if you already own the original.

    *shrugs* I have the original.

I'm just not willing to download the entire game. A GB file would take a month at the very least. And that's just too much time. Especially when all I need is a 140mb file.

Why doesn't somebody just mail this kid a disc? Do you live in the United States of America?

I still have the ban control open from removing those spambots, so I'd say the word you'd be looking for is "power." :D
