I know we're mostly limitted in what we can truly glean from the demo, but I've been messing around with an Elf who Sold His Soul for the extra Aptitude, but I would like to know if anyone knows what this boosted Aptitude actually does? Stronger spells? Do you learn them faster? And along those lines, do spells and skills only go up when you train them with character points? Or does use increase ability through practice?

(I would post this on the official forums but they won't let you register with free email addresses and I'm not going to give Sierra my home or work email address. I get enough spam as is.)

this was gleened from the demo manual:-

Please do keep firmly in mind that any Character Points spent on Spells will alter the Magical/Technological Aptitude of the Character, and this, in turn, will have significant effect of the Character’s interaction with all Magical and Technological items.

there is also another couple of paragraphs on the topic
altho i seen it somewhere that a certain apptitude percentage for magik will basically determine how 'powerful' magik items will work in that chrs possession in the same sort of way that a sword may do 1-7 damage but if ya aint got much melee skill you will only be able to inflict a portion of that.
If i aint right then would one of the moderators please put me straight

The more magickal aptitude= the less chance of a critcal failure, more chance of a critical success. Same thing with tech.

It can also be used to "overpower" another person's spells as well, if I read correctly. That's the part that interests me more than the critical chance.

Oh yes, my fireball WILL hit you, regardless of your anti-magic protection.

Having a high magic aptitude reduces the damage/affects of tech based weaponry.Grenades don`t work as long (you aren`t blinded as long by flash grenades). I have yet to see the actually damage reduction on a shot from a gun tho.

I dont think there is actual damage reduction more along the lines of a lower chance of successfully firing the thing in the first place

There should also be a chance of critical failure if you shoot a mage.

This could make your gun explode for example.

Sadly there is no archmage in the demo to try it. .

With guns the effect is that they miss more often(against a higher level magick aptitude than the shooter), and at greater aptitude ABS, can critically fail more often. Grenades are handled differently because of the area effect.
