Requirements (storyline) for an Arcanum 2 as a MOD

    Well I figured I'd branch the discussion from the races thread into a new thread.

    Realistically, there will not be Aracnum 2 so the only solution would be to make it as mod for Arcanum. Now as the fellas have said in the refereed thread, this is nightmarishly hard to do.

    Wethere or not anything will result from this, I figured we could throw a few ideas around for what sort of elements (mostly storyline) could be added in a "continuation" from the end of arcanum...however set in the current game.

    These ideas of course...would be dependent own twhat quests were solved in the arcanum game:

    - Re-population of the Black Mouintain and Stonecutter Clan as visitable towns. Perhaps add a few quests, similar to the ones in the Wheel Clan.

    - The Boil is truly transformed into the area described in the cut-scene at the end...add the hotel that Caleb Malloy now runs.

    - If you Helped the Orcs to riot...transform Tarant into worn down town where the Orcs run shops (badly at that..charging little for good items and too much for worthless items)...humans now work in the factories..

    - If you helped Applesby...perhaps have him become Tarant's new Tyccon....and twist Tarant into twon as mad as he is...citizens will be VERY pissed at you.

    - If you helped free the Ghost of Bessie Toome....improve Shrouded Hills, turning it into a more modern town

    - Have Dernholm regain its status with the return of Warren Del Par.

    I'll throw out a few more later...please contribute with your own.

    about the storyline for arcanum 2

    i think the storyline should be connected to the original stroyline in arcanum. Depending how the game ends ( good or evil way or you did/didn't do some quests that ghanged the world). It would have to depend on the original story. I don't know how that would be able to do, maybe with lot's of programming and making lots of diffrent kind scenarios? Hell knows. but it would be cool!!! :D

    And nearly impossible. There are too many endings avaible in Arcanum to make that many mods. If the modding is as nightmarishly hard as some say, then the process would surely outlive us. But assume that the character did everything right! Then we would've lot's of stuff to go on.

    If we assume that the character did everything right (in good way I think wha t yoou are meaning?), then there is the problem that the game would start as a perfectly good character. But then there could be the possibility that if the player wants to be an evil character so the character would be a fallen one or something like that. I know you are right about that it would be impossible to create all those different scenarios for the mod, i agree with that. But I'm just checking all the possibilities here what would be cool and "easily" done and then the possibilities that are nearly impossible.

    But who said that the character should be the same as is the previous game? Why not start up with a brand new character who are born in this new fascinating world? We can even create stories and legends about the character from Arcanum, and perhaps even give hints to where that character is now (probably on Cattan with Raven, but what the heck...)

    IMHO...tbe easiest thing would be to have something like:

    Have every storyline catch from Arcanum 1 in a table of sorts and base hwat you see/get in ARcanum two on the results of that table (or combinations of said results)

    It would'nt really be THAT hard as a lot of the stuff would really only affect a certain character being there or not.

    For example, the Hedge Wizard in Black Root, the Woman who wanted the Elven funeral stone,...

    Others would involve a little more tweaking

    For example, if you killed Arbalah in A1, his house might be destoryed and his spirit might haunt the area...if you helped him, he may have built a church where his house is now.

    And a few things would require major changes but there wouldn't be that many....perhaps only Tarant, Shorouded Hills, Dernholm and Caladon, depending on what you did or not.


    When you start a NEW game, it asks you if you finished Arcanum 1.

    If no, it starts a new game with a random config.

    If yes, you have the option of loading the table based on your A1 saved game.

    Another option would be that you could go through some sort of questionaire to create your game table.

    Like:

    - Did you return the Bessie Toome Mine to its rightful owenr?
    - Did you Help Clear the Boil of the Maug and Pollock Gangs?
    etc...

    Only problem is that it might take a while....

    If anyone has a list of every possible Quest or point rewarded task in the game then I'll have a go at creating the results table and post it here for you to analyze.

    Gimme a list and I'll see what I can come up with! Surely there is some file in the game that has that, after all it does generate the quest part of the adventure log right?

    I hate to be bumping this but lets face it, people don't give a flying shit about the FAQ when they first join the forum, they just assume this forum is like others.
