As some of you probably know by now, the kickstarter for Project Eternity has reached it's first stretch goal (the pool of cash is currently at $1,566,156 and counting). The kickstarter was initiated early in the game's creative process, which likely means that the team will be more receptive to fan feedback. What is currently known is that players will create one main character, and then control a party of at most five other characters (temporary characters and the like not counting towards the six character party limit).

In true Arcanumesque spirit, the main character will being their journey as a victim of circumstances beyond their control, that souls will be important both mechanically and plotwise, that alignment will be eschewed for a reputation system and that we will likely see a selection of races ranging from the traditional to the rare.

My initial enthusiasm has calmed down when the stretch goals have been revealed. It didn't feel right that the first $1,1 million is enough to make a whole complex game, but all we get for an exemplary $200k between stretch goals is a 1 class +1 race + 1 follower expansion pack.

Update #3 and the interview with Cain have revived my faith, though. With races having sub-races and being as complex and distinguishable as they make them seem ("so that playing an elf doesn't feel like playing a human, even if they are both the same class"), those stretch goals seem more justified now.

A player house to chillax continues to seem redundant to me. Not complaining if that kind of goal will result in attracting more people and money, but will it really?

I'd rather have a small selection of race and classes that were well designed than a plethora of pointless choices, thank you very much.

Player housing will attract both the casual gamer and the completionist. Consider the number of people in Baldur's Gate that took up an abandoned house to store every single book in the game (I have all the houses in Skyrim decked out and one is my personal library with all the books in it). If it is a customizable house then it will definitely attract a larger audience.
