    It's 7 degrees Celsius (44F).

    It's raining.

A bit further north it's snowing today.

    This is summer in Scandinavia.

It's 29C here. In the middle of the night. It will be 42C in the afternoon. This is summer in the desert.

Still, it beats summer in the humidity of the Deep South.

It is the same as Scandinavia in the summer. This is winter in Australia.

Nice to know that it is still summer on your country. :) Here on our place, it is already a rainy season.

Must be the circles in which I move, but it seems like there's plenty of third world problems in Australia. Aboriginals, ferals and bogans are probably excluded from the index for tax purposes. Either that or the rest of the world is significantly more fucked up than I thought.

Anyway, I moved to a tiny white bred country town recently, without scouting ahead first. Lovely countryside, but I can't help but feel that the only thing standing between me and meth-fuelled hillbilly rape is the single street lamp outside the house and, as soon as there's a blackout it's going to go full redemption.

Also, this is my first winter so far from the equator. It hasn't even reached zero Celsius, so relative to two consecutive weeks of 45+ this is perfectly amenable to life.

It is only once you've traveled overseas that you actually appreciate how lucky all Australians are. Including the martyrs you see having a whinge day in and day out. A lot of other countries don't treat even their citizens as well as we treat our 'natives'.

Yes, I meant deliverance. I wasn't sure, thanks.

I never saw it and never want to either.

I only know about it because I used to play that tune on the guitar as a kid and wondered why it made people nervous until it was explained that it's the hillbilly rape theme song.

I grew up in small town white Australia south of the equator and I only very occasionally want to hang someone new in town; More generally we just ignored them.

Just so long as they hate Queensland they will survive just fine seemed to be the standard rule.

Oshit. I already let slip im from Qld.

Everyone keeps asking me where I'm from because of my Asbergers accent, which is somewhere between Dutch and British, so I hoped being from qld would deflect aggression. To put a tin lid on it, I'm driving a Ford in Holden country.

Sigh. I guess I should start practising squealing like a pig, if not drawling like a bogan.

Well, if Midsummer was cold, late July hit us with the hammer of the gods. There is no escaping the smouldering heat.

If you're claiming to be plagued by hotness, then I claim freezing cold, because it's below 10C here. I'm guessing you're pushing 30C or so.

Last summer I walked through the sun at 38C and thought it quite bearable compared to the week of 45C we'd just had, which wasn't quite as bad as the routine 36C and 100% humidity summers i grew up with. If your sweat can't evaporate it can only broil you alive.

This is part of the reason I recommend living under the sea.

... how far below 10C would you consider cold?
