Technically from what I can gather in arcanum modular system, a mod could also mean a campain or its equivelent. So... yeah make some SP Mods, dude ever hear of Jedi
Knight? That game still has dozens of levels coming out a week for mp and sp

Does anyone know how to change the image displayed when a player clicks on a "note" object? I dont want to be stuck showing the same Arcanum images because they won't follow my story line.

Also, what about changing cut scenes. The documents say you can use your own cut scenes (animations) in your mods but I can't see how to do this.

    Anonymous,

I think you need to encode cutscene movies with BINK. Not sure how to do that, though. I haven't played much with the editor myself, so I can't really help you with your questions right now

I Know how to make worldmap in SP

I alredy made some maps in SP, it is possible.

Unpack Arcanum1.DAT and you'll see how Arcanum's map works

    some hints
    1) WorldMap 1 pixel = 1 sector
    2) WorldMap is a couple of small chunks, each 250x250 pixels in 256 colors
    3) Zoomed Map is 365x365 bitmap in 256 colors
    4) don't make map with Width<>Height - it will work, but in zoomed map version you must stretch bitmap and loose proportions.
    5) always make a water or mountains in edge of map, otherwise - possible crash.

 Geee... Didn't notice that. Thanks for pointing it out. Did he really made it or did he just cut and past it from the original mapping? I wish he can work it out. It's about time I should be playing user MODs other than Sharon's.

    Dunno

I would like to ask if anyone could answer this question:
When i have made a map in WorldEd and compressed it, when i'm going to play it in Arcanum in SP the screen goes blank and i have to shut down the game, in MP the screen where the normal playing screen is, it's just totally black!
Please answer as quick as possible.

I've started drawing my own map (right now I'm using "Edit Terrain") and I was wondering if there's any better way to do it? I have this neat action in Photoshop that creates a more or less realistic landmass, currently it's 1500x1500 but the only way I've managed to copy it is doing a lot of alt-tab and just paint by hand...

no... that edit terrain tool is not for making the world map per se. that tool is for making the actual terrain map of your game... i.e. the forests the PC walks through.

It is just on a very large scale when you use the edit terrain tool.

After you have created your terrain in the edit terrain tool, use the Export bitmap feature. That will give you a more or less bland version of your worldmap.

Open that file in Photoshop and touch that up- that will be the worldmap you see in the map screen in the game.

I know all that, I'm supposed to export my map. But drawing it by hand on the terrain editor is a pain, specially if I have already generated a quite realistic landmass and want to reproduce it with actual terrain.

I know that afterwards, I should export the terrain itself and use *that* as a base for my map, but I'm talking about the other way around.

That's my question... it would be great if the terrain editor at least allowed onion skinning

No, that will not work. *confused*

when you create terrain with the terrain editor, you are actually creating the entire map the PC walks around on- forest, desert, mountains, etc.
You are not creating a bmp, the bmp you get from exporting is just a simplified image of your main game map. To be able to do what you're asking, a program would somehow have to be able to create an entire game map of terrain from a bmp image, and neither photoshop nor arcanum can do that.

Technically, you can use any image you like for a worldmap (you could get a big mickey mouse face and use that if you like) but unless it is identical to your game map, the player will be walking over obstacles and so forth on the world map.

Yes that's more or less what I want... anyone knows if there's any kind of tool that provides onion skinning? I know that Windows XP provides translucent windows, maybe there's a graphic viewer that can be set to transparent and overlaid to the screen?

It's just that creating the map without any kind of reference is annoying, there's not even a grid on the terrain editor.

    Mapping Tool

I have a great idea for a mapping tool!

All we need is someone with the programming skills (I used to have them, but they have rusted shut).

A program that translates pixels from a bitmap into mouse clicks. That way, modders can load their previously generated maps into the app, and the app will take care of simulating mouse clicks in the area of the window.

Since the entire map isn't always visible (say you have a 2000 x 2000 pixel map) it should be able to select a part of the map, a region of the screen, etc. it should work at 2x zoom, which is apparently the smaller view for the sector painter).
