    Hmmm....

That's an interesting point. There SHOULD be male prostitutes in the multiplayer version.

Lets say that somebody did .
I eastimate a cost of $500K one million for this to be done.

Everytime someone joined the game the game would pause because of the maps that have to be shared.

Arcanum maps are at lest 15 Mbytes.

A real estimation is about 50 Mbytes.

So Bob and his girlfriend Mary play in Lan .

Then George their friend joins in dial-up .

The game frozes and it will remain frozen until George downloads those 50 Mbytes.

    Hmm.

And there's no way to have a single server run it.
But what if it were chopped up into chunks? And what if the maps were adapted, not directly copied. That would mean less NPCs, less area, and a lot less to do because of it, but it might run.... Might. Maybe you could have people do things in areas and then copy their saves over to a different module, the module of the place they wish to go?

Everything can be done . But this could cost more than to make Arcanum 2 from scratch.

    So basically .

It cannot be done . Trust me.

Personally i think Battle.net is an example of how to do multiplayer right, of course the maps are much smaller, but i mean come on, the person who starts the room could always kick out people with slow connections and anyone who joins ater would just be locked out of the game anyway so it wouldnt freeze the multiplayer game for everyone... if all multiplayer was like that why would we need won.net?

    Re: Hmm.

then why don't you make Arc 2? all ya gots to do is an obscene amount of world, quest building, scripting, and other fun tasks like that... hell, if you start working on Arc 2, I'll help ya! and I bet we could assemble a task-force of other like-minded forum slackers! :)

    I am.

I've only just begun last month and I'm not expecting it to be much bigger than Vormantown. I won't go into details, but some big things are gonna be happening for me at the end of this summer, so if it's not finished by then it'll be put on hold indefinitely.

That being said, I'm planning to pretty much work on it 12 hours a day until then. (Not 12 hours alone mind you, I've a partner in this endeavor.)

-shrug- Don't get your hopes up, if I can't finish now I probably won't be able to work on it for another 2 years. Supposing This site is still around at that time, I'll release it then, or whenever I finish.

2 years is nothing, we've been here for most of the last decade.

How exactly did this thread get stickied in the first place? Also, I really don't believe that 4 people are making a multiplayer mod.

perhaps someone could make 3-5 'dedicated servers' that never go offline? maybe rent out a server or something and make a mod that lets you connect to them? no one would be able to create a game, you can only join the existing ones started by the server...this would fix the loading problem (all the maps will be Vormantown, which AFAIK is on every arcanum disc, therefore, no loading needed) and would actually be pretty fun if a bunch of people from here and the codex were convinced to join in. of course that is probably impossible and just a dream..

btw, does anyone know why beddoes stopped posting?

Chris Beddoes was killed in a car accident with his brother up in Queensland around the beginning of March this year when they ran into a tree (though it jumped out at them I'm sure). Ipso facto Beddoes is dead.
