At one point things started to get heated between arcanum and other governments and as a precautionary measure arcanum began to build vaults where people could live in case of.....

so the whole world was radiated badly and only those who hid in the vaults survived as humans (elves were massacred becoz of their magic),and dwarfs. (dwarves built vaults themselves and the humans did not let gnomes into the vaults becoz of the Half-Ogre Incident)
all the rest of the races were already extinct.
when the nuclear winter died down, people came out of their vaults, and some allied and formed the Brotherhood of Titanium.
