    Hi,

I wanted to create my own background with background.mes, effect.mes, and gameback.mes ; and I was wondering if that would interfere with any modifications made in the UAP, seeing as (if I understand how mes files work) my own customized effect.mes file would replace the mounted UAP file...

    Any clarifications?

    Thanks in advance.

    Oh and also,

    (SPOILER)

is it possible to avoid Vollinger's departure?

    Thanks.

It should work if you append your modifications to the UAP file instead of working with the original one.

    Thanks for the quick answer...

But how would I extract the UAP mes files?

There's a bunch of .dat file extractors available in the download section, pick one. Once you've got your files out, place them in the arcanum directory tree (like ...sierra\Arcanum\modules\Aranum\mes for things in the mes 'directory' of the .dat file) and the game will choose them over whatever files may be in packed .dat files. I suggest downloading some mods that offer custom backgrounds to see how its done.
