This poll lacks a Muro option. I am very disappointed.

We keeping the backgrounds strictly original Arcanum or can we use the ones introduced by the UAP etc?

Custom backgrounds are fine. Anything from UAP is acceptable.

I would also accept custom backgrounds which follow the same general formula but which haven't been programmed, as long as there's some explanatory backstory.

Just to make things clear, the UAP didn't introduce any new backgrounds. Now, A:WIP, that added a million or so.

    Okee-dokee.

The year is 1861 the storyline will commence on June 14th OOC or when all participating player characters are assembled at Linkenberry Estate IC., whichever comes sooner.

Hope you don't mind my character being similar to yours in a few ways (evil mages with mental college and similar names). Viktor Salazar is a character my mind created for Arcanum a long time ago. I finally finished the game with him some months ago, but remained insatiable with his personality and was looking forward to have some more fun with it, and this seemed a great opportunity for that. You have to understand, he did not allow me to change anything about his character.

    No worries at all.

There's definitely a good deal more originality and colour in your concept; my guy is lifted straight out of every rpg ever:
    Generic Evil Wizard #1.

The name Zalakar is taken from lore, though, being the mage who created the Black Legion, the orcs who transform into snake-people.

    Excellent work so far, everyone.

I'm loving the Pratchetesque absurdity and the variety of the characters.

Is there anything in the Arcanum canon about how big the 'World of Arcanum' is supposed to be?

As far as in-game canon, I don't think so.

Do you refer to the actual size of the world map from the character's POV, or the rest of the world beyond the edge of the map?

In the first case, given the speed at which you can hike across it, it seems about the size of Great Britain. The climatic differences between the latitudes are more a case of altitude and local topography rather than vast differences in the distance from the pole.

In the second case, given the small area in the map, I would say that the rest of the world is much, much bigger.

The lack of outward exploration (or even astronomy) in the Arcanum industrial revolution is unusual to us, but it can be explained in terms of the 'other worlds' already on the doorstep of the human cities, ie, magick and non-human races. Instead of expanding their knowledge and empire abroad, they are still preoccupied with their homeland.

Long story short, the canon says: Arcanum is a land of possibility.

In terms of travel distances IC for this adventure, at the risk of spoiling, everyone has received their telegram with exactly enough time to get to Stillwater, no matter where they start, how they get there or what happens along the way. Anyone who cares to play can come from anywhere and they will arrive at the Linkenberry estate in time for the start of the story. The current posts are just playtime for anyone not in exams for the next fortnight.

Going to be any issues if I jump in a little later, perhaps in the second chapter or so?

Time is money and I'm severly lacking in either at the moment, such as it is.

Just give me a heads up and I'll work you in.

I know the feeling by the way, good luck.

Due to the upcoming exams, June, up to the 20th, will be a busy time in my life. This fact will cause a cosmic disturbance of such great calibre that in a parallel universe a certain spellcaster known as Viktor Salazar might sadly end up not being able to return to Stillwater on time.

How does the time we're playing in relate to the game's time. How far off are we?
