Has anyone been able to load their own
portraits into the demo? For yourself
only, or your NPCs also? If so, please
post what size they need to be and what
    steps are needed. Thanks.

I'm not sure if you can do it in the demo. I don't think so.

i think i've heard the same thing as strider did.

that you can't import them, well perhaps through hacking, but not normally in the demo.

The demo is not set up to allow portrait importation, however it is supposed to be an option in the final.

So for multiplayer i assume the portraits have to be present on every workstation to ork?

That would be my assumption, although they should be part of the mod that all the players are playing, so you would have them anyway.

I doubt that my own personaöl portrait would be part of any mod.

Is there a dedicated portraits-folder in the beta?

No, not in the press demo(beta). What I meant was, if your playing a multi-player mod, and all the players have that mod, there may be a portrait directory associated with it, so only those portraits would be available. The game almost certainly has default portraits if it can't find your portrait. Unfortunately this kind of info is still scarce.

This would mean individual adaption of every multiplayer mod before the game.

At least if i want to keep my face.

I dont think that sending your pic to others playin MP would be too much of an encumbrance as they would only be small.
I wonder if troika could have it that on connect to the server on MP you automatically d/load the other portraits , the same sort of thing that happens when you connect to a server in half life or quake online? where it downloads any relevant files you will need?

That's probably one of those interresting pieces of game mechanics we will run against when trying to do something unusual...

The pics are pretty small(file size wise) so it might be done that way.

Could it possibly be a good idea to get one of the major sites like T-A or AGES(which focuses on moding) to host a "Portrait bank" where people could submit their various portraits?
Get into the attic and get gramps old suit, steal some makeup from your sister and get to it..or just use crayons on a piece of paper.

Yeah, I'd love that. I want to be able choose from as many portraits as I possibly can.

Who wouldn`t like to see the regulars here and over at the Inn dressed in 16th century clothes. That could be a great idea for sigpics on this board as well.

I meant having them sent automatically upon joining a mod, BB.

There is portrait proccessor program I wrote several months ago floating around here on TA, in the download section. It converts standard image files(jpgs, bitmaps) to the correct format and size and also creates a text file called userport.mes, which the game needs in order to use them.
