If Diablo II was somehow basedon RPG like stly, would it compare to Arcanum? Because I've alwaysd thought that Diablo was l a lot like Fallout I and II, but with swords and such, anyone else have an opinion on this?

Umm.. Did you ever play Fallout or Fallout 2, or did you just look at the screenshots?

i enjoyed Diablo 2 alot, and i enjoyed the demo alot. but they are extremely differant. an example being that i got sick of the full version of diablo 2 after 2 or 3 weeks, and enjoyed the demo, just a small portion of the full game for almost 2 weeks.

I agree there are some similarities between the two.

    - Both are PC games that require directx to run.

    - Both feature 2D graphics.

    - Both have Weapons and Armor based out of the middle ages.

    - Both revolve around the main character with followers acting on their own

    - Both use Magic

That is about it for similarities. These are the similarities between Arcanum and any other CRPG or games with RPG elements.

Firstly, Diablo 1 & 2 are not RPGs no matter what they claim.

Those kind of games are 3rd person isometric versions of 1st person shooters, kinda like a Hexen wannabe. So they throw in swords and magic and call it an RPG.. thats just lame coporate gimick.

Diablo 2 especially is a game of greed.. and as such, it becomes a huge chore to play it. There are no other ways to play it, you have no choices but to bash the heads of anything that tries to kill you.. which is everything in the damn game.

Diablo 2 is a huge waste of my money.. oh how i've wronged and srayed from the path of good honest RPGing.. but tis okay now, ive seen the errors of my way.

No Bioware/BIS RPG are similar to Diablo and its clones.. not even Icewind Dale comes close. And in the end, Fallout 2 remains the best RPG ever.

well i have never played diablo II but i have diablo I and there is definately not much similarity between it and fallout......or arcanum for that matter.
I think that if you have played the fallout series the better comparison would be between fallout I & II and arcanum.

err, you know its not the middle ages in arcanum, its the realism and naturalism era.

the middle ages is the time btw the roman empire, and the renessance(??) :)

If you just want to run around and hack/blow away anything you meet without interacting more then 20 sec each 3-4 hrs with other NPCs, then you should get Diablo 2.

If you want to talk and interact with the world in the game get some other game like FO, FO2, Torment or BG2 (at least it has more interaction then the previous games BG and IWD).
You could also wait for the wonderful game Arcanium.
(I wounder if you get anything for this kind of bootlicking)

I've read somewhere that the game is considered RPG when you are able create character or at least part of him/her. Now if this is true even "Soldier of Fortune" could be considered a RPG game.

Diablo is all hack n slash and doesn't deserve the name rpg in its current context

but technically, all games are really rpg's

All FPS's are rpg's, all RTS's are rpg's, Because what is an rpg? Role playing game

Where you take the role of a person on and play him out, now some games like the FPS's there is no real character development or anything
