I recently bought the game from my friend. I do like it a lot but he lost the manual and i can't figure out for the life of me if you can read the notes and newspapers in your inventory. If so, please tell me how. Also is there anything i should know thats in the manual?

To read stuff just use the item (drag it over the "hand" image to the right, on top of the discard arrow)
Or you could right-click it, assuming you're patched. Of course, if you like doing it the hard way, go right ahead.
You can also put newspapers, books, notes, etc, into one of the "hotkey" boxes and click on them there.
That's generally a bad idea though, since all those readable thingies stack in the quickbar, meaning you can't have two different newspapers in the quickbar and you'll have to shuffle them around should you need to read another newspaper.
