So instead of being all-powerful, Arthgon decides to make people think he is all-powerful...

It would take some doing to get everyone at the festival to believe a meteor falling was Arthgon's fault. I know that, given the context, it's a stretch to say how dead cultures think
But if "That guy speaks to animals. He must also control the heavens! KILL THAT BASTARD!!" Becomes a reasonable follow up...I don't know. That breaches my suspension of disbelief. I can get a religious war over who gets to keep the meteorite, but not because everyone thinks a valuable rock falling to the ground is an outcast's fault.

It was just an idea. Do you really think that I really wanted that people thought that my character was all-powerful? Ofcourse not. (Sorry about that if you thought that it was meant that way.)

You should know that I only wanted to do this in the context of the superstition of that era. Just the same way that people had in the Middle-Ages with witches.

But you are right it would be a stretch indeed if every tribe would blame my character for it. (I only had my tribe on my mind, not everyone else but okay.)

My character probably have to help to track down the meteorite or something. (I am not sure how my character gets involved with this, yet)

Edit: I wanted to delete that particular post, because I was not that sure how far the superstition would go in that era, but my mobile phone (Yes. I have one now.) fell out and does not work that good.)

Okey dokey, I will make a decision and post in a new thread, I guess. Possibly.

Let's make it a little more fun.

Everyone nominate two companions/contacts.

For example, Arthgon you can take two dire wolves.

I will nominate for mine:-

1) Plump Wife: Cook, potionmaster and herbologist.

2) Gullible Apprentice: Dogsbody and monster-fodder.

1) Rifa; resident unlikely hero of Otro's as yet unnamed tribe. I'll have a name by the time the game starts. She's a fierce combatant, and her combat instincts allow her to adapt to both human and animal combat as it evolves in the moment. She'll often take some hits just to see what her opponent can do. She's pretty oblivious to most things around her, which got her the name Slow, but her ability to hunt and fight more than makes up for it, like she's a combat savant.

2) Garn Hassa [lit. 'Master Hare-Lip']; He taught Otro all he knows about making tools for the tribe, and he's known as the best. He still teaches, but arthritis prevents him from knapping his own work anymore. Otro still has some left to learn from him, and when that task is complete, Hassa may finally rest, and Otro will take the mantle of Garn.

I think it's safe to say that everyone's tribe is called "the true people" in their various languages.

That's people for you.

Cool characters btw.

FYI, the sky is about to fall. Gather your equipment, followers and backstories. Do not bother with a pretext for Nago to join your party, he is being retired as an npc and I'll play another in time.

If you can, please post a comprehensive inventory.

Animagus Inventory:

Flint
Full Waterskin
10x dried meat
Dried meat for Fang and Scar
Editable plants
Plants for wounds and stuff*

Wearing:

Sabletooth skin

Weapon: Spear

*Not sure to call this. Plants for healing purpose, perhaps? There is a highly possibility that they already knew in that time that some plants can have a positive effects against wounds and some other problems.

Edit: Removed the shoes.

Oetzi is dated to about 9000 BC. Rest assured, however; people back then wore clothes.

And chimpanzes use medicinal plants, so it's all good.

However, for a caveman raised by wolves in midsummer, (who speaks casually of marrying his dog) I think we can assume minimal modesty.

There are plenty of gritty details about prehistoric personal lives which I would prefer not to focus upon, including whether or not your character is wearing pants.

Otherwise I would have mentioned that Nago has spent the last twelve years painstakingly stretching his penis so that now he needs to carry it around on a kind of bird-stand, and to pee out a small incision in the base. A small price to pay for maximum mana, he would say. :-o No, I'm just joking... but that is standard witch-doctor policy in some parts of the world.

But seriously, I'd like to see your idea for a neanderthal stonesmith's inventory, Gross.

Game on!

My character only wears a cloth of Sabletooth skin around his lower body. (no actual pants) So, you could say it is a minimal modesty.

I am still not sure about those footwear though. Also, is it okay about those medical plants?

I just know Neanderthals were the first people to wear clothes. Now, given the nature of finding food for this festival, I would expect at least the 'tals to be naked the entire time.

Medicinal plants are definitely accessable. Antiseptic oil and cobwebs would be the easiest and most effective stone-age first-aid for wounds but there was bound to be many tribal remedies.

Medicines would be quite specialised knowledge, but an essential item in tribal life.

Moccassins (leather shoes), on the other hand, require a lot more industry and infrastructure: Someone skilled with a sewing-needle (state-of-the-art technology) would have to custom-fit them to your character at least once per year. My advice is to forgoe the shoes at least: His feet would be tough enough.

Also, feel free to wear a sabre-tooth tiger skin, but be aware that such a fur, if complete, would represent a lot of wealth/status, a king's ransom, in fact.

Good advice about those shoes. It does not fits in this era, indeed. Removed them.

I do think that Animagus will take the (his) chance with his Sable-tooth skin.

It is too bad that Nago becomes a NPC, (selling all kind of stuff to superstitious and gulliable people against the dangers of the meteor or something) but will he stay at the place of disaster or will he be a NPC member of our group? What will happen to him?

I would prefer to play a more prosocial character. Nago may evolve into an antagonist later, but for now he is missing in action. He won't be a party member.

Now, for me, the meat of the story is a walking tour of the ancient world, travelling through many lands like tourists. It could be very fun.

There will be ample opportunity for more team members to join as you travel. I'll post another character background soon. Game on!

Okey dokey, nice work guys. I'm having fun anyway.

Take your pick from some of these characters for me to play in the team.

A. a lost juvenile mammoth.
B. a hobbit/kleinemench/brownjack forest dweller.
C. a sea-gypsie fisherman.
D. a very old, very wise woman.
E. an ape-like giant; sasquatch/yowie.
F. an insatiable cannabil/warrior.

Also, choose your path:-
north - plains
south - east-african coast
east - bushfire and meteorite.
west - jungle/swamp.

I think that I will go for A. I do not think it is really THAT safe to go directly through the burning forests, so I think we should go south.

It's definitely not a good idea to run through a burning forest, unless you're in it when it starts to burn and you have to leave. The space-metal can wait. South sounds better to me, too.
I think Mammoth would be a good idea, but so would a hobbit. Oddly enough, people in Flores tell of the Ebu Gogo, a tiny wild person with its own language who can parrot human speech. They were seen more frequently in the 17th century when the Portuguese came to trade, and much fewer people claim to have seen them in the early 20th century. It's thought they're all dead, now.

Okey dokey, let's just move on.

The sun is setting, there's bushfires, duststorms and mud-rain, thousands of panicking cavemen and millions of panicking megafauna.

There's no time to try and breast feed a mammoth with a dog; everyone gather and go south. The east side of the bay is wide beaches/dunes; you can travel along the coast of India.

For the record, the mammoth will follow Fang, holding onto her tail, and it will be amenable to carrying the old smith.

Ytzk: I know that we had to move on, but you know that the young mammoth was totally scared. Not a good thing, if you want him to go with you. It would be realistic that Fang calmed him down first. This would prevent the young mammoth to panic and get himself killed.

By feeding Haethor (Or does anyone have a better name for him?) Fang becomes like a mother to him.

I shall change some things in the post though.

Edit: Changed the post.

Just want to make sure that we on the same page and that I did the right thing. Is Haethor is temporary blind or permanent?

Well done, it's all good.

The mammoth's eyesight will heal.

I'll post a continuation of the story soon.

I'd like to start a world-map mode, where you must plot a course and risk encounters, and solve puzzles along the way.

Managing a small tribe could be fun, like a strategy game, but I don't mind how big or small you want the focus to be.

I was wondering in case of story-wise: Has the fiery rock caused the same conditions if an asteroid hits the earth? Blocking out the sun, cold weather and an ice age.

No, it's not that big, it's just that the people were pretty close to ground-zero.

Off the top of my head, I'll say the meteorite is ~50kg and made a crater 150m wide and 15m deep.

The residual effects will be: a bushfire; some glorious sunrises and sunsets and; some muddy rain. This should only last a few days, and the crater itself will probably be reclaimed by the jungle entirely within a few months.

I'm just waiting on Gross to reappear. Hopefully he's still with us. If he's not around by the end of the week, I'll co-opt his character until he returns.

In the meantime, I'll probably continue to post random background narration. Remember, the purpose of the game is to recreate ancient earth, so feel free to write whatever fill-in details you like. Eg, how, exactly, do you make fire? What can you read from the tracks in the earth? How does your character feel about other tribes? Etc.
