Help with Level 3 Wolves! [/n00b]

Hey... I have a bit of a problem right at the beginning of the game and I'd really appreciate your help in solving it. [I have all the patches installed.]
The problem (please, don't laugh) is that... I can't past the few Level 3 Wolves right at the beginning! (combat mode in turns)
What am I doing wrong? I tried with a few different characters but me and Virgil get killed on every try (tried at least ten times so far).
I'm pretty sure the wolves shouldn't be such a big problem so what am I doing wrong? What's the best combo of skills to get past these fuckers?
Thank you in advance for any help. I'm really frustrated that I can't go on playing...

P.S. I tried looking in FAQs and such but nobody mentioned this...

Have you fought the guy that tried to kill you? As i remember you can go to the world map after that and go to the first village. I made that over exploring mistake too

Those wolves are a good source of experience points at the beginning of the game, but few characters can take them right after leaving the Crash Site.

As I know after UAP and/or WIP (atleast after UAP) they're nerfed very much and weaker than in original Arcanum, so you can kill them even in real time with bare hands and 2 in melee on hard difficulity, but only if 1v1 and heal (run to Virgil if you're alone) before every combat. In original Arcanum yes, they are insane wolves and too overpowered for thier 3rd level and impossible to beat in real time if you don't use harm spell, however in turn based it much more easier, with high dexterity they won't even hit you if you use hit and run.

There are no balance changes in the UAP.

But before I installed UAP it was suicide to kill wolves on low level in real time, and it required alot APs to run away from them in TB to not being hit. After installing UAP I discovered that they're slower and doing less damage so you can handle them even in real time on low level.

This is simply not possible. Compare the stats in monster.txt if you wish.

Probably, you also can try to install fresh Arcanum and go instantly from crash site to south east and see how fast you die, and after installing UAP you will have chances even on 1st level in real time, and easily kill wolf in turn based, because you don't need to run away on like 10 APs or something.

Btw, this is wrong thread to ask about, but how do I change creature's stats? I tried to modify this .txt file, but all changes simply ignored. However I changed weapon stats in .mes files and changes saved and worked, but monsters not.
Firstly I changed "material" of ailing wolf to the same as stone elemental, I wanted to test will my sword start to break after hitting him, but not. I thought that "material" isn't affect this, and wanted to test to this .txt file works at all, and made HP of ailing wolf from 10 to 100, but no, he still die with few hits and have only 10 HP.

I made the UAP. You're arguing with a wrong person.

Anyhow, if you're using the UAP with a modded game, then I can't guarantee anything. It's very easy to screw something up if you don't know what you're doing.

I remember i had to make quite a couple of builds to get past those wolfs anno in 2001 and use the sleep/advance time option after every fight.

Now i reinstalled the game with all the patches official/unofficial, made a female human with tomboy background and placed all 5 starting points into dex. Nothing was able to hit me OR Virgil for some reason and some of the enemies on the way just died of 1 hit, until i reached the thieves at Shrouded Hills bridge. Now those were tough, had to use a potion to kill em.
