UPDATE: Okay, I did something that seems to have worked. Details after my original post.

---Original Post---
Here's the issue I am having: I've added a couple of new items to the main Arcanum module using WorldEd. The items appear, and work (well, one of them works, the other is having script issues, but I'm still debugging it). The problem is that the items names do not appear in Arcanum when during testing.

I have read through Troika's original editing docs, gone through AMTUT (several times before I even started editing the main module), and have done an exhaustive search through the forum and the internet for an answer over the past couple of days.

Is there somewhere else I need to add item names besides gamedesc.mes? According the AMTUT, that is the only place I should have to. And the new names DO show up in WorldEd from the drop down list when I edit the items.

Other points to note: I have...

  • tried using old AND creating new descriptions (gameitemeffect.mes) for the items, but neither way alters the name issue.
  • cleared out Arcanum/modules/Arcanum/maps before each test.

I'm at a loss for what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
---End Original Post---

UPDATE:
Okay, apparently I cannot have gamedesc.mes in the Arcanum/data/mes/ folder. It has to be in my working Arcanum.patch# folder.

I thought files placed in the Arcanum/data/<appropriate>/ over-rode the .patch# files?

Can anyone tell me what other files I'm liking to run into, that need to be in my patch folder instead?

As for the script on the item I was having issues with, I have since got it working, too!
