So is this part of the board still stone dead or is there anyone out there who's interested in playing a game?
I take all of your answers as yes. So, what do we want to play then? Another go at the fantasy nations, or something else?
Been playing the new shadowrun returns game. That's as far as my knowledge goes. Pretty cool universe.
Okay, cool. Shadowrun. Well, the Wikipedia entry is a good introduction to the universe for those who don't know it. I can cobble together a simple version so we don't have to dick around with a library of sourcebooks or dozens of dice. Yes?
Well, you may have noticed me working out a system using the forum instead of a pencil and eraser. It is now ready for testing. Long story short, turn based tactics with deadly attacks. The combat system is brutal and complicated but fair. This way, I am not controlling the story but simply setting the scene. I will play as the AI and, within the rules, try to stop you capturing the flag or killing the goons. As players, you must ask the right questions, make the right plans, and act wisely, or at least duck and shoot at the right times. If the mechanics say you die, then you die. If you succeed then you succeed. It is an impersonal world with defined rules, just like a computer game. The difference is that there is room for creative action on your part. Spells, equipment, speeches, strategies or stunts, can all be worked into the game mechanics. (Just remember everything has a cost).
If you can keep the enthusiasm going till Tuesday I'll be able to join in. Currently pulling long shifts thanks to Australia Day weekend and the bogan mentality it inspires.
Cool. I hope to have finished the first mission by then and to just keep the game open for casual gamers one mission at a time. Good luck with the drunken hordes.
